The culture house of Oñati is located at an old residential building constructed in the XIX century in a parcel with garden, whose main facade closes Santa Maria´s square. This building was constructed on the remains of a previous smaller construction that was included within the building´s new volumetry. However, in the following facade, the appearance of a courtyard in an unitary and continuous facade allowed to see this previous condition, dividing the volumetry in two. It is in this courtyard where the most visible part of the intervention is inserted, providing the main centre with vertical accesses and illumination of the new spaces.
The XIX building allows a double height space where the library is located. The ground floor of the old volumetry´s smallest part extends towards the garden to site the assembly room, and building´s basements are unified to form the exhibition area.
